Inferno Bats Quiet Again

(4/27/2008) - In Northern Athletics Conference action, the Inferno dropped both games of a doubleheader to Rockford College, 3-0 and 11-4.  Minimal offense and a handful of errors proved to be the difference in both contests.

In game one, Alverno found themselves with just two runners aboard in seven innings of play.  Hailey Hegerty (Jr. Milwaukee, WI/Oak Creek) broke up Haley O’Kraski’s perfect game in the sixth inning when she drew a one-out walk.  Unfortunately, the Inferno were unable to move Hegerty and left her stranded on first base.  In the top of the seventh inning, Brianne Porter (Fr., Oak Creek, WI / Oak Creek) got the only Alverno hit when she singled into left field.  Jessica Goetz (So., Milwaukee, WI / Martin Luther) took the loss for the Inferno giving up one earned run on seven Rockford hits.  She struck out seven.

In round two, Rockford jumped out to a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. Andrea Spindler (Jr., Greendale, WI/Greendale) singled and Melissa Bankenbush (Fr., Franksville, WI / Union Grove) doubled to drive in the run.  The Inferno were able to manufacture three more runs on a 2-RBI single by Goetz in the fifth inning and an RBI-double by Megan Burgess (Fr., Racine, WI / Racine Park) in the sixth. Porter saw one inning of action and Goetz finished the game.  The Regents tallied eleven runs on fifteen hits.

Alverno College will finish the regular season on Monday, April 28th when they host the Raiders of MSOE.  The first pitch will be thrown at 4pm.
