Aurora Remains Undefeated in NAC Play
(4/14/08) -- The Alverno College women’s softball team dropped a pair of games to Northern Athletics Conference rival Aurora University on Monday, 12-0 and 11-0. Both games went 5 innings and were played at Alverno’s softball diamond in Milwaukee, WI.
Aurora (19-5, 12-0) played small ball to get the 12-0 win in game 1. The Spartans pounded out 15 hits, led by lead off hitter Dana Cebular’s 3-3 performance at the plate. Cebular scored all three times she reached base. Brianne Porter (Fr., Oak Creek, WI / Oak Creek) took the loss for the Inferno (1-9, 4-16), giving up 10 runs in 3+ innings. Melissa Bankenbush (Fr., Franksville, WI / Union Grove) managed two hits in three plate appearances from the lead-off spot for the Inferno.
Anna Snyder picked up the win in game one. Snyder pitched three innings, gave up four hits, and struck out six.
In Game 2 the Spartans flexed their muscles early with eight runs in the first inning. Spartans’ Nikki Veen and Shannon Starr each hit two-run home runs to pace Aurora. Katie Stoxen (Fr., Silver Lake, WI / Catholic Central) was hung with the loss for Alverno. Stoxen could not get out of the first inning, giving up four hits and seven runs in 2/3 of an inning pitched. Nicole Capone notched the win for Aurora.
Alverno will be back in action on the road tomorrow, April 15th, when they travel to Plymouth to take on Lakeland College. Doubleheader action set to begin at 3pm.
