Alverno Bats Come Alive Too Late

(4/5/08) -- The Alverno College women's softball team got a nice surprise when they woke up on Saturday morning.  Due to poor field conditions at Concordia (WI), it was decided that the Northern Athletics Conference scheduled doubleheader between the Inferno and Falcons would be played at Alverno.

In Game 1, the Inferno bats did not come alive until the fifth inning when the Falcons were up 9-0.  Facing a "mercy-rule" shortened game and having only scratched out one hit up to that point, the Alverno offense finally woke up.  With two outs, seven straight Inferno reached base. By the time the Inferno was finished in the top of the fifth, six runs had crossed the plate and Alverno trailed only 9-6.  Jessica Goetz (So., ) led the attack with a double and single in the inning.

The Falcons however responded in the bottom of the fifth with a five-run rally of their own, finishing the game with a 14-6 win.
