
Inferno Drop Two

(3/21/08) -- The Alverno women's softball team lost to Bowdoin College, 9-0 in their first game of the day down in Fort Myers, FL. The Inferno also dropped their other game on the day, 12-2 to Keene State. Both contests went only 5 innings.
In the Bowdoin game, Alverno could only scratch out 2 hits while Katie Stoxen (Fr. Silver Lake, WI / Catholic Central) got roughed up for 8 runs (6 earned) in 1.1 innings pitched. Jessica Goetz (So., Milwaukee, WI / Martin Luther), who threw the first ever no-hitter in Alverno history yesterday (a 3-1 win over UMASS-Dartmouth) pitched in relief, giving up one run, on one hit in 2.2 innings pitched. She struck out 6.
Things started out better for Alverno (1-3) against Keene State. CF Melissa Bankenbush (Fr., Franksville, WI / Union Grove) led off the top of the first inning with a single, moved to second on a passed ball, and two outs later scored on an RBI double by Goetz.
