Goetz Tosses No-No
(3/20/08) -- Pitcher Jessica Goetz (So., Milwaukee, WI / Martin Luther) made the first day of the 2008 Alverno College women's softball season a memorable one. In a 3-1 win over University of Massachusetts (UMASS)-Dartmouth, Goetz (1-0) pitched the first no-hitter in Inferno history. She tossed a complete game, giving up one unearned run and striking out eight. Melissa Bankenbush (Fr., Franksville, WI / Union Grove) led the Inferno offensive attack going 1-3 with a home run.
The game was played in Fort Myers, FL during the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Alverno will play 10 games down there in a span of six days. The win already matches Alverno's victory total from their trip to Florida from last season.
The day got off to a shaky start, as Alverno fell to State University of New York (SUNY)-New Paltz, 12-0 in 5 innings. |
