The Alverno College women’s soccer team enjoyed many school “firsts” this season:  First 3-0 start to a season, first Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) “Student-Athlete of the Week” recipient, and first team to finish the season with six victories.  Two of the catalysts to the Inferno’s success were recognized by conference coaches this week.   Ellie LaFond (Fr., Waukesha, WI / Waukesha West High School) and Alex Brenner (So., West Allis, WI / Nathan Hale High School) were both awarded NAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors the conference announced on Thursday.

Ellie LaFond started the season off strong with three goals and an assist during Alverno’s 5-0 shutout of Finlandia University.  That performance led to her being named the “NAC Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week” the first week of the season.  It is the first time any Inferno player has been awarded the honor in the two year history of the conference.  Two games later, LaFond was at it again, repeating the three goal performance against North Central (MN) University in Alverno’s 3-1 victory.  Ellie saved her best performance of the year for a conference opponent however, scoring four goals on October 10th securing the Inferno’s first conference win of the season, a 7-3 victory over Rockford College.

When LaFond wasn’t scoring for the Inferno, Alex Brenner was usually the one there keeping her team in games.   Alex also started quickly this year.  Following LaFond’s three goals in the season opener, Alex had a three-goal performance of her own in Alverno’s second game.  The tallies helped the Inferno edge Robert Morris College-Lake County, 4-2.  Brenner put together another three-goal performance nine days later during an 8-0 shellacking of Mount Mary College.  All told, Brenner scored goals in seven Inferno games, including one last “hat trick” (3 goal game) in the victory over Rockford.
