Olson Caps Freshman Season in Record Fashion
(11/10/07) – The Alverno College women’s cross country team finished in 31st place at the Midwest Regional held today at Lake Breese Golf Club in Winneconne, WI. Washington (MO) University placed four runners in the top ten to finish 1st in the 37 team event.
The Inferno’s Sarah Olson (Fr., Oconomowoc, WI), continued to rewrite the Alverno record books Saturday, breaking her own record in the 6K for the fourth time this season. Olson’s time of 23:33 was good enough for 78th place out of the 266 participants.
Olson began the season on September 8th at the Concordia (Chi) University Cross Country Invitational by breaking the previous school record in the 6K held by Caroline Kotras (Class of 2006). Olson’s time of 25:31 shaved over a minute off of Kotras’ record (26:38). Olson improved her time on October 13th at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in Mequon, and then again on October 27th at the Northern Athletics Conference Meet at Concordia University Chicago. Her time at the conference meet was 24:24.4.
Olson’s successes led to her being named to the NAC All-Conference Team as well as being voted “NAC Newcomer of the Year” by the coaches in the conference.
