Inferno Come Up One Streak Short

Bre Miller Gabby Allen
(1/11/2008) – Looking fresher, more relaxed, and playing as a team better than they did during a 48-point loss at Wisconsin Lutheran College last Tuesday, the Alverno College women’s basketball team fought tooth and nail with visiting Stephens (MO) College on Friday night before eventually falling to the Stars, 75-68.
In what was a game of streaks, Alverno (4-10, 0-7 NAC) took a 38-38 halftime deadlock and turned it into a 54-44 lead thanks to a 14-4 run over the first 7 minutes of the 2nd half. The Inferno’s Bre Miller (Jr., Racine, WI / Horlick High School) scored 8 points during that run. However it was the Stars striking the final blow going on a 9-0 run midway through the 2nd half to take a 55-54 lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
To begin the game it was Stephens that started off hot, getting out to a 9-2 lead. Alverno answered with a 28-12 run in the middle of the half, before Stephens was able to finish the frame with a 17-8 advantage.
Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, WI / Bayview High School) led a quartet of Inferno scorers in double figures with 17 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor. Miller poured in 15 before fouling out with two minutes left in the contest. Lisa Sorgi (So., Milwaukee, WI / Greenfield High School) and Joslyn Binkowski (Jr., Greenfield, WI / Greenfield High School) netted 13 and 10 respectively.
Alverno will return to Northern Athletics Conference play next Wednesday when they travel to River Forest, IL to take on Concordia University-Chicago. Game time is slated for 7:00pm.
