Alverno Cruises to 79-58 Victory    Lisa Sorgi Bre Miller Gabby Allen (1/05/08) -- The Alverno College women’s basketball team has a modest two-game winning streak after defeating Mount Mary College on Saturday, 79-58. It was the Inferno’s first win of the new year and first game since December 18th, when they defeated Silver Lake College, 78-56. Alverno (4-8, 0-6 NAC) dominated the first half defensively holding the Blue Angels to only four field goals, including a 14 ½ minute scoreless stretch from the floor. That drought for Mount Mary coincided with a 5-minute tear for the Inferno where they outscored the visitors, 17-1. Lisa Sorgi (So., Milwaukee, WI / Greenfield High School) scored 7 points during the run and finished the contest with a game-high 16 points. Bre Miller (Jr., Racine, WI / Horlick High School) also turned in a pivotal performance for Alverno, filling out the scoresheet with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Gabby Allen (Milwaukee, WI / Bayview High School) hit 5-6 shots from the floor to round out a trio of Inferno scorers to reach double figures. Allen had 12. Alverno will return to Northern Athletics Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Wauwatosa to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College. Game time is slated for 7:00pm. |
