Concordia Dials Long Distance for Victory

Joslyn Binkowski Lisa Sorgi
(12/8/2007) – The Concordia University-Chicago women’s basketball team took 42 shots from behind the 3-point arc on Saturday during their game at Alverno College. Fourteen of those attempts dropped in for the Cougars and paced them to a 69-55 victory. Cougars’ freshman guard Melissa Schwab led all scorers in the game with 24 points and was 8-15 from 3-point range.
During an 8+ minute stretch in the middle of the first half, the only points the Cougars (4-4, 3-2 in the Northern Athletics Conference) scored came via three-pointers. They hit six in that span.
Alverno (2-6, 0-5 NAC) kept the game from getting out of hand by scoring from a different line. The Inferno shot a sizzling 91% (20-22) from the free-throw line in the contest.
Joslyn Binkowski (Jr., Greenfield, WI / Greenfield High School) had a monster game for Alverno leading the team in points (23), rebounds (13), and steals (3). Binkowski was 7-8 from the charity stripe. Lisa Sorgi (So., Milwaukee, WI / Greenfield High School) chipped in 9 points and 6 boards.
Alverno will take a break from Northern Athletics Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Kenosha to take on NCAA Division II foe UW-Parkside. Game time is slated for 7:00pm.
