BU's 71% on Three's Shoots Down Inferno

Lisa Sorgi                Bre Miller               Gabby Allen

(1/22/2008) –  The Alverno College women’s basketball team was on the wrong end of an incredible shooting display for the second straight game on Tuesday night.  On Saturday, Marian College’s Coleen Moody hit 12 of 13 shots from the floor on her way to a 30 point performance and a 80-70 Sabres’ win.  On Tuesday night it was Benedictine University making an unbelievable 15 of 21 shots from behind the 3-point arc en route to a 90-59 victory over the Inferno.

Despite the Eagles sharp shooting, Alverno was able to keep the game close for the first 11 minutes.  But a Benedictine 16-0 run over the next 5 minutes put them up to stay.  In the 2nd half, Alverno was able to shave the deficit down to 12 with the basketball at the 11:09 point.  But a steal by Tamika Curtis and layup by Monica Krozel ended the Inferno hopes of a comeback.

Lisa Sorgi (So., Milwaukee, WI / Greenfield) led a trio of Alverno scorers in double figures.  Sorgi finished with 17 points, including a 9-12 performance from the free throw line.  Gabby Allen (Fr. Milwaukee, WI / Thomas More) and Bre Miller (Jr., Racine, WI / Horlick) each kicked in 16 points in a losing effort.

Alverno will continue Northern Athletics Conference play next Wednesday when they face Dominican University.  It will be the third game of Alverno’s current four-game home stand.  It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.  They will meet again in River Forest, IL on February 13.  Game time for the January 30th game is set for 7:00pm.
