The Alverno College women's basketball team got out to a 10-8 lead in the first ten minutes of Thursday night's Northern Athletics Conference match-up with the host Eagles of Benedictine University. The Inferno also were two points better than the Eagles in the second half, outscoring the home team, 38-36.
However, a 15-4 run by the Eagles in the last nine minutes of the first half was enough to keep Alverno from their first Northern Athletics Conference win. Benedictine outlasted the Inferno, 59-52.
Alverno's defense clamped down on 2006-07 NAC Conference Player-of-the-Year Tamika Curtis, only allowing the senior seven shots in the entire contest. Offensively, the team was led by Joslyn Binkowski (Jr., Greenfield, WI) with 11 points. Binkowski also pulled down 9 rebounds.
