Sorgi Receives All-Conference Recognition
MILWAUKEE (03/04/2008) -- Lisa Sorgi (So., Milwaukee, WI / Greenfield) was named "Honorable Mention" on the All-Northern Athletics Conference team it was announced on Tuesday. Sorgi was one of 20 players to receive either 1st Team, 2nd Team, or Honorable Mention recognition in the 13 team league. It is the first time an Alverno basketball player has been awarded the distinction.
Sorgi was the one constant on an Alverno team that experienced its share of ups and downs this season. The sophomore led the Inferno in conference games with a 14.7 ppg average on 43% shooting from the floor. In 13 of 18 conference contests, Sorgi scored in double figures. The five games she did not reach double figures, she scored 9 points. Three times Sorgi scored over 20 points against conference opponents including a season-high of 25. She accomplished that feat twice, first on December 15th at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, and again on January 19th vs. Marian College.
Averaging over 37 minutes a game, Sorgi also contributed over 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.4 steals in every contest.
"Lisa is one if the hardest working players I have ever coached,"said Alverno first year coach, Brad Duckworth. " She is a constantly in the weight room, and working on her game. She is a great leader by example and a great teammate. Lisa will be the first to say that she would rather win than score points or be all conference. I am very proud of her accomplishments this year and look forward to continued greatness for the next 2 years."
