Spirit of Alverno

Texas Alumnae Group

We chose the Texas Alumnae Group not just because of their enthusiasm, but also for their organizing activities, commitment to long-term connections with each other and Alverno, and their collective efforts to define and expand the role of regional alumnae groups.

Maybe it’s true everything really is bigger in Texas. The impact of this group of Alverno women who reach beyond meeting socially to find ways to affect the College’s most pressing needs is hard to miss. They work to keep connected, even creating a directory, ordering shirts, and sharing their Alverno experiences on video for use on the Alverno Stories website.

In spring of 2013, Alverno College Board of Trustees member and retired CEO of Brady Corporation, Kathy Hudson, hosted a get-away weekend of events. By the next year, the group identified several areas of interest to promote the college and advance recruitment. As there is a large of number of Texas alumnae nurses, they plan to volunteer in local high schools to advocate for science careers and Alverno’s programs. They also outlined the establishment of a Texas Alumnae scholarship fund.

The Texas Alumnae Group is setting a great example. They demonstrate enthusiasm and dedication in serving and supporting the college. They have devised ways to provide outstanding service to Alverno while raising the bar in their efforts to define and expand the role of regional alumnae groups.

Bringing their activities directly back to campus, the Texas Alumnae Group plans to attend the 2014 Homecoming where they will offer a session with students to discuss science and other medical careers.
