Spanish/English Health Care Interpretation
The Hispanic community is the fastest growing ethnic community in the United States. This large increase in the Latino population means a correspondingly large increase in the need for trained interpreters in health care settings. Institutions are now hiring trained professionals who can bridge the communication gap that currently exists between health care provider and Latino patients.
The Spanish/English Health Care Interpretation minor is designed specifically to prepare future interpreters in the crucial role as conduits of consistent, accurate and transparent communication between Latino patients and health care providers. Upon completion of the six-course minor, you will be trained in health care interpretation and qualified to seek employment as health care interpreters in hospitals, clinics and other health care entities that require interpretive services.
Students must pass a bilingual assessment prior to admittance to the minor. If students need additional work to bring their language abilities to a professional bilingual level, students may take the course Advanced Spanish Language and Cultures I, and then re-take the bilingual assessment.
