Philosophy

With a background in philosophy, you can become the kind of clear, critical and imaginative thinker who could be successful in a variety of careers. Your study of philosophy will prepare you to approach any line of work with a broader vision and the ability to listen well and make a case for your own views when called for. From business to the arts, from law to the health-care fields, from psychology to biology, these are the kinds of abilities that will serve you well.

As a student of philosophy, you will actually be engaged in one of the most practical disciplines around. We all must make decisions about how we are going to act based on what matters the most to us, what will make us better people, what we are going to believe, and what sources of knowledge we are going to trust. These are all philosophical questions, but we are not always as reflective and informed as we might be in addressing them. By studying philosophy, you will develop the kinds of abilities and insights you need to approach these questions in more systematic, thoughtful and imaginative ways.
