Admissions Requirements

  • Application
  • Two recommendations. Both must come from professionals who have played a supervisory role in your nursing development. (i.e. manager, supervisor, physician, advanced practice nurse, clinical nurse specialist or faculty)
  • Official transcripts showing a baccalaureate or advanced degree
  • Personal statement (requirements listed below)
  • Current resume
  • Copy of your unencumbered nursing license and current CPR certification
  • Up-to-date health records, a criminal background check and drug testing are required for clinical placement.  Information will be provided at orientation.

Post Master's Admissions Requirements

If you are applying for the Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner or Post-Master's Nurse Educator program, recommendations and the portfolio are not required.

Personal Statement

Alverno does not require standardized test results.  Instead, the writing examples outlined below will be used to help determine your ability to demonstrate graduate-level analytical writing and critical-thinking skills.  Please pay particular attention to the criteria listed below as well as formal writing mechanics.

Submit a two-page, double-spaced essay describing why you want to pursue an advanced practice nursing degree in the particular track you've chosen, and share your goals for using your degree after graduation. Please us APA (American Psychological Association) format in your statement.
