The English major is designed to engage you in the complex processes of reading and interpreting literature, to heighten your ability to discover meaning from a variety of literary works and genres, and to deepen your commitment to literary studies as a chosen discipline. Studying literature at Alverno equips you with the analytical frameworks and the intellectual habits of mind necessary to become and remain an engaged reader and passionate critic in your personal and professional life. It also
provides practical skills in communication, analysis and social interaction.
