Education: Broad
Field Social Studies
Broad field social studies is a major area of study
for students seeking Wisconsin Department of Instruction certification
in social studies education. Broad field social studies consists
of a major in either history or social science, with additional
coursework in social studies. This provides the teacher education
student with multiple endorsements and areas of teaching specialty.
Students earning a bachelor's degree with the intention
of seeking state certification take secondary education as a support
area in conjunction with the broad field social studies major. Students
who already have a major in history or social science may add this
area through additional study.
Additional coursework would include courses in psychology,
economics, history, and social science.
