Business and Management

A new approach to business education
Alverno's business major takes you beyond finance, marketing, accounting, economics, personnel theory and other necessary business theory and skills. At Alverno, you'll learn how to put them all together. How to use them to think critically, communicate clearly, work with others effectively and solve problems systematically. How to solve business problems and deal with business situations. And how to access your own performance confidently and accurately so you can continue to grow on your own.

All Business and Management majors build a strong background in accounting, finance, economics, marketing, organizational theory and small business management. These tools are learned actively - in case studies, simulations, internships and practical experience. You may write your own plan for a business that you dream up. Or you may define a problem in an actual business, research, gather and analyze data and present a report of your findings.

Business also requires the abilities to analyze and make decisions, to motivate and persuade others. Women who come to Alverno learn how to learn, how to think on their feet, how to communicate. Developing these abilities is built into every course you take.

Internships for real-life experience
Part of every Alverno student's education is the opportunity for an off-campus internship. You may work in a bank, a television studio, or a personnel office of a large Milwaukee company. Alverno has affiliations with over 600 organizations where you can test your developing abilities against on-the-job demands. These placements can create valuable connections for job opportunities after graduation.

Our minors give you an edge
Each Business and Management major chooses a minor, such as Professional Communication, Computer Studies, Psychology, Arts and Humanities, or you can create your own minor to suite your own individual interests and needs. The specialized abilities that come with each minor give the Alverno graduate added flexibility.
