Spanish Major

SPANISH MAJOR

If you want to major in Spanish, we can help you design a program.  To do so you would declare a major in Liberal Studies (LST) with a concentration in Spanish. You would need 120 credits in Liberal Studies and General Education courses to which you would add a minimum of 27 credits in Spanish. It is recommended that you include a semester of study abroad.  Contact the Chair of the World Languages department for more details.

THE SPANISH MAJOR COURSE SEQUENCE CONSISTS OF TWO OPTIONS:

Option 1:  (33-36 credits)
SLC 103, 104, 203, 204, 303 (15 cr.)
SLC 403, 466                         (6 cr)
HUM 356                                (4 cr)
SLC 400 (optional)                 (2 cr)    
Study Abroad                         (6-9 cr)

A.M.O.R.E.S. SPANISH CLUB:

A.M.O.R.E.S. (Alverno Multicultural Organization of Recreation and Education in Spanish).
The club meets regularly to plan Hispanic cultural events and activities.  Some events have included talks on Chile, Colombia and Honduras; ¡Baila Baila!,(Latin dance); a flamenco dance troupe and a Latin music combo.  You do not have to be Hispanic nor speak Spanish to join.  For more information contact:  Susana Pérez, Faculty Adviser, 414-382-6152, Susana.Perez@alverno.edu.

HISPANIC WOMEN OF ALVERNO (HWA):

HWA provides service to the Hispanic community.  One of their major events is the annual Virgin of Guadalupe mass that is open to the public and is held in the Alverno chapel.  For more information contact:  Carla Echeveste at echevece@alverno.edu.

LA MESA EN ESPAÑOL (SPANISH CONVERSATION TABLE)

The group meets every Tuesday from 12:10-1:00 p.m.in Alumnae Hall to converse in Spanish.   All levels are welcome. For more information, contact Meg Crosby, Faculty Adviser, 414-382-6385, margaret.crosby@alverno.edu.
