Biology Major

If you love animals or plants, being out in nature, or the drama of medical research, you may be a biologist at heart. You find Biology majors analyzing samples in crime labs, teaching children about wildlife, growing cell cultures and sampling trees. Everything from DNA in the nucleus of a cell, to medicine, animal behavior or the ways humans affect the environment falls under biology.

You can specialize in molecular biology, which integrates physical sciences into biology to understand DNA and how it works at the level of living cells. How do characteristics change from one generation to another? You could ask that about a person’s family — human heredity is part of the genetics course, too. You will study how traits are passed onto the next generation and examine changes in DNA patterns. In all the biology labs you get to ask the questions, learn how to design your experiments and do your experiments.
