Gaining Field Experience
Art Education, Art Education/Art Therapy, and Art Therapy majors have four semesters of involvement in professional settings working with a variety of populations throughout the Milwaukee area before student teaching. Art Education and Art Therapy students complete a series of developmental field placements prior to the senior level professional semester, which provide breadth and depth of experience toward developing the abilities necessary for professional competence. Alverno maintains ties with more than 150 local schools and agencies to provide a wide range of field experiences and student-teaching opportunities, as well as opportunities for hands-on participation with various community organizations.
Studio Art majors gain experience learning in professional settings through internships. You can also study art for two weeks or a semester in many countries including England, Ireland, Mexico, Italy or Japan.
Alverno’s art faculty will help you shape your career from your very first semester, including a specific seminar which connects students with working professionals who serve as potential mentors and resources.
