Tamara Natalie Madden was born in Jamaica and currently resides in Georgia. Her mother is a graduate of Alverno, a fact which influenced her decision to participate in this project. The piece is 36" x 24" and was inspired by her best friend, Tiffany Slade, who received her MFA in writing from the Art Institute in Chicago.
"She represented all that Alverno is looking for. She's a single mother and the only one in her immediate family to receive a degree, much less an MFA!" |

Caitlin Kuhwald is from Philadelphia. "The size of the piece is roughly 14 x 14 inches and the medium is acrylic paint. I used a friend who I attended graduate school with as a model and fashion magazines to create the outfit, which is always so much fun." The doves and the tree are meant to represent growth and freedom." |

Sarah Labieniec of Minneapolis: "The size of the piece is 25" wide and 11" high. It was created as a sketch and then completed in Adobe Illustrator CS2. Since it's a self-portrait, I chose to include a lot of floral elements. This is something I explore often in my work and it has a lot to do with where I grew up in Connecticut. The composition invokes a sense of daydreaming." |

This is a digitized photo of an incoming Alverno freshman named Isabelle, and is being used to answer the question: "How does an incoming Alverno student see herself?" (In real life, her skin color is much less green. But at Alverno, we welcome all ethnic groups equally, even the green ones.) |
