BIOGRAPHY
Ann Van Eerden is an associate professor of nursing in the JoAnn McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions at Alverno College. She also serves as the director of both the Undergraduate Nursing Program and the Health Education Program. She has nearly 40 years of nursing experience and has been teaching since 2008.
Prior to coming to Alverno, Van Eerden served in a number of roles including public health nurse for the City of Milwaukee Public Health Department and as a primary care nurse. She maintained a practice as a school nurse until 2020. In her role at Alverno, Van Eerden and her students helped Hales Corners Lutheran Elementary School and Atwater and Lake Bluff Elementary Schools in Shorewood implement the Wisconsin Asthma Coalition (WAC) school walk-through program. The program is designed to increase school attendance by reducing environmental asthma triggers found within school buildings, assessing each classroom for identifiable environmental asthma triggers and creating positive, low or no cost changes to the schools.
Van Eerden earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Alverno College, a Master of Science in Health Care Management from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Wisconsin - Madison. She also holds a graduate certificate in Public Health from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. She serves on the boards of the Milwaukee Area Health Education Centers and Delta Gamma at Large, and is a member of the American and Wisconsin Nurses Associations, the National and Wisconsin Associations of School Nurses, the National and Wisconsin Leagues for Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International, Delta Gamma at Large Chapter. She is a Certified Nurse Educator, a National Certified School Nurse, a registered nurse, a certified Stop the Bleed trainer and she’s certified by the American Heart Association in basic life support including CPR and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
